Mumbai: Maharashtra recorded 43 new COVID-19 cases on Sunday, slightly down from the 47 cases reported on Saturday, bringing the state’s total number of active infections to 209.
Mumbai remains the hotspot, contributing 35 new cases, while Pune district reported eight infections. Health authorities confirmed that all current cases are showing only mild symptoms, and most patients are recovering without medical complications.
Since January, the state has conducted 7,389 COVID-19 tests, out of which 300 samples have tested positive, reflecting a low overall positivity rate.
Doctors have reassured the public, emphasizing that COVID-19 is now behaving like a seasonal viral illness, and there is no need for alarm. The current strain appears to be less severe, and hospitalizations remain minimal.
However, officials reported that four individuals who tested positive for COVID-19 have died since May 18. All four had pre-existing health conditions, and health authorities clarified that the underlying illnesses were the primary causes of death, not the virus.
The state government continues to monitor the situation closely, but experts stress the importance of remaining cautious without panic, especially for vulnerable populations.
