Pune: In light of ongoing heavy rainfall across Satara district, authorities have announced a temporary ban on access to several popular tourist destinations until August 19. The decision, taken by the District Collector, is a proactive measure to protect public safety during the high-risk monsoon period, which typically draws thousands of visitors to the region’s scenic spots.

Starting June 20, the restrictions apply to major attractions such as the Kaas Pushpa Plateau, Vajrai and Thoseghar waterfalls, Lingmala Falls in Mahabaleshwar, Ajinkyatara Fort, and other high-risk areas near lakes, waterfalls, and dams in Satara, Mahabaleshwar, and Panchgani. With water levels rising and surfaces becoming dangerously slippery, the administration has cited overcrowding and hazardous conditions as key reasons behind the move.

The new guidelines strictly prohibit entering fast-moving streams, swimming in rivers or waterfalls, and standing directly beneath waterfall flows. Risky behaviors such as taking selfies or shooting videos near cliff edges, narrow mountain paths, or bases of waterfalls have also been banned due to the increased likelihood of accidents during this season.

Additionally, consumption of alcohol near these locations is now forbidden, and legal action will be taken against those entering restricted areas while intoxicated. Parking or halting vehicles in unsafe areas is also disallowed, and any form of public misbehavior—especially incidents involving harassment of women—will attract strict legal penalties.
To ensure public peace and safety, playing loud music or operating DJ systems at these tourist sites has also been outlawed during the restriction period.

Officials have requested visitors to avoid unnecessary travel to these spots during the monsoon and to fully cooperate with local authorities. The administration emphasized that these precautions are aimed at preventing tragedies and ensuring a safe environment for all.
