Mumbai : In a significant move benefiting economically weaker sections (EWS), Maharashtra has become the first state in the country to implement a 10% EWS reservation in private unaided medical colleges under the state quota. This decision paves the way for open-category students from financially disadvantaged backgrounds to secure admissions in private medical institutions.
The update was revealed in the information brochure released by the State Common Entrance Test (CET) Cell for admissions to various medical courses including MBBS, BDS, BAMS, BHMS, BUMS, BNYS, and BPTH. According to experts, this development is a major relief for hundreds of students from EWS backgrounds who were previously ineligible for reservations in private colleges.
Key Highlights:
The 10% EWS reservation will be implemented across state quota seats in private unaided medical colleges.
This reservation excludes government, government-aided, municipal, and minority colleges.
Students eligible under EWS will now be entitled to reserved seats and fee concessions in private medical institutions.
