Akola : Aishwarya Toshniwal, a second-year DM Oncopathology student from Akola studying at the Gujarat Cancer Research Institute Medical College in Ahmedabad, had a narrow escape in the devastating plane crash that occurred in Ahmedabad. She was sleeping on the fifth floor of the second hostel building when the Air India Dreamliner, en route to London, crashed into the BJ Medical College hostel minutes after takeoff with 242 passengers on board.
Aishwarya, who had recently returned to Ahmedabad after celebrating her grandfather’s birthday in Akola, was jolted awake by a deafening sound. Within seconds, thick smoke engulfed the entire building. Despite the panic and confusion, Aishwarya kept her composure. Realizing the severity of the situation, she wrapped herself in a blanket to protect from the heat and smoke and carefully navigated her way down from the fifth floor.
She sustained minor burn injuries on her face, hands, and legs and is currently undergoing treatment. Her condition is reported to be stable.
In a terrified state, she immediately called her father, Amol Toshniwal, to inform him about the horrific incident. Recalling the ordeal, the fear in her eyes reflected the trauma she experienced during those critical moments.
The Air India Dreamliner, which had taken off for London, crashed within minutes and collided with the BJ Medical College hostel. The crash has claimed several lives, but Aishwarya’s bravery and presence of mind helped her survive what could have been a fatal tragedy.
