In an intensifying legal tussle triggered by opposition leader Rahul Gandhi’s remarks on freedom fighter Swatantryaveer Vinayak Damodar Savarkar, the Congress MP’s legal team has strongly opposed a petition filed by Satyaki Savarkar demanding the cancellation of Gandhi’s bail.

Satyaki Savarkar, who had earlier approached the special court claiming that Gandhi violated bail conditions, is now being accused of misleading the judiciary. Advocate Milind Pawar, representing Gandhi, dismissed the plea as “baseless and defamatory,” asserting that the bail granted to Gandhi was unconditional. Pawar urged the court to take legal action against Savarkar for attempting to mislead the court and for defamation.

Countering these claims, Advocate Sangram Kolhatkar, appearing for Savarkar, alleged that Gandhi has been purposefully stalling the legal process by repeatedly seeking adjournments. Kolhatkar appealed to the court to cancel Gandhi’s bail and seize his bond for allegedly delaying the proceedings.

In a fresh twist, Advocate Pawar has requested a re-investigation under the Criminal Procedure Code. He has asked the court to instruct Vishrambaug Police to trace and submit the genealogy of Satyaki Savarkar’s maternal family—the Godse lineage. This stems from the historical context linking Nathuram Godse, Gopal Godse, and Vinayak Savarkar as co-accused in the assassination of Mahatma Gandhi. While Savarkar has already submitted his paternal lineage, Pawar argued that the maternal genealogy remains critical and must be disclosed.
The court has now directed Satyaki Savarkar to file a reply to this request, and the matter is scheduled for the next hearing on June 12.
