Pune: A 32-year-old biker sustained injuries after being struck by a golf ball while riding on the Gunjan Chowk flyover in Yerawada. The incident, which occurred around 5:10 p.m. on Saturday, has sparked fresh concerns over public safety near the Poona Club Golf Course.
According to the complainant, the golf ball, reportedly hit by a player from the adjacent golf course, struck him in the chest and also hit several passing vehicles. Following the incident, he visited the Yerawada Police Station with a friend and presented the golf ball as evidence, demanding action against the golf club management. However, no police action had been taken in the two days following the complaint.
On November 29, 2023, a cyclist was similarly injured by an errant golf ball from the same course, leading to a police complaint against the club’s management. Despite these repeated occurrences, no significant safety measures have been implemented, raising concerns over the golf club’s responsibility in preventing such accidents.
The injured biker has called for immediate action, emphasizing the dangers posed by stray golf balls to unsuspecting commuters. “The negligence of players and lack of protective measures are putting lives at risk,” he said.
Senior Police Inspector Ravindra Shelke of the Yerawada Police Station assured that appropriate action will be taken once the complaint is officially processed.
