Pimpri: A woman police constable accepted a bribe of ₹1,000 near Bhosari Police Station to avoid filing a court case and to waive a fine. However, suspecting a trap, she attempted to flee on her two-wheeler. The Pune Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB) team chased and caught her near the Pimpri Court.
The accused has been identified as Reshma Balu Naikare (age 32). A 35-year-old dairy business owner had filed a complaint with the ACB regarding the bribe demand.
According to Police Inspector Amol Bhosale of the ACB, the complainant runs a dairy business. On the night of March 31, the complainant continued milk sales beyond permitted hours. As a result, action was taken, and he was brought to Bhosari Police Station, where a case was registered against him.
To avoid forwarding the case to court and to escape paying any fine, Police Constable Reshma Naikare demanded a bribe of ₹2,000, later settling for ₹1,000 after negotiation. The complainant reported the bribe demand to the ACB on Friday, April 4.
Following verification of the complaint, the ACB laid a trap on Saturday, April 5. Naikare was caught red-handed accepting the bribe of ₹1,000 from the complainant near the Bhosari Police Station. However, suspecting that it might be a trap, she fled the spot on her two-wheeler. The ACB team pursued and apprehended her near the Pimpri Court.
The bribe amount and her mobile phone were seized. A case has been registered against Reshma Naikare at the Bhosari Police Station.
