Pune: A businessman from Magarpatta, Hadapsar, has fallen victim to a scam involving fake MBBS admissions, resulting in a loss of Rs 40 lakh. A case has been filed at Hadapsar police station, and authorities have launched an investigation into the matter.
The 49-year-old complainant informed the police that in August 2024, he was approached by a group of individuals who claimed they could secure his daughter’s admission to a private medical college through their connections. The suspects, identified as Sunil Kumar (45), Saurabh Gupta (40), Vikas Gupta (28), Randhir Singh (30), and Priyanka Mishra (25), convinced him to pay a total of Rs 60 lakh for the admission.
The accused received the payment in both cash and online transfers. However, despite the assurances, the businessman’s daughter was not admitted to the college. When he requested a refund, the accused returned only Rs 20 lakh. Realizing that he had been scammed, the businessman reported the remaining Rs 40 lakh loss to the police.
Assistant Inspector Deepak Barge is leading the investigation under the guidance of Senior Police Inspector Sanjay Mogle.
