Pune: While Minister of State for Education Pankaj Bhoyar had recently mentioned efforts to begin the academic year on April 1, the State Education Commissioner has clarified that schools will continue to start in June for the 2025-2026 academic year.

Bhoyar had earlier shared that authorities were coordinating to start the next academic year on April 1, and discussions were underway with schools, parents, administrators, and teachers across the state. However, this statement led to confusion due to a lack of clarity.

In response, State Education Commissioner Sachindra Pratap Singh addressed the confusion, stating that while revisions to the syllabus for Class I (and possibly Class II) will be made according to the National Education Policy, the school year will still begin in June as usual. New textbooks will be created to align with the revised syllabus, and the teaching methods will undergo changes.

The government has also outlined a State Curriculum Plan, which includes the implementation of the National Education Policy and the adoption of the Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) timetable in state schools. While discussions on altering the school start date to April 1 are ongoing, there is opposition in certain areas due to varying local conditions.

The Education Department has assured that only the Class I syllabus will change, adhering to the CBSE framework, but following the guidelines of the State School Education Board. The school schedule will remain unchanged for all other classes.
