Pune: Three individuals have been defrauded of a total of Rs 56 lakh in separate incidents after being lured with promises of high returns on stock market investments.
In one case, cyber fraudsters duped a resident of Magarpatta City of Rs 45.40 lakh. A complaint has been registered at the Hadapsar police station. According to the police, the complainant, a young man residing in Magarpatta City, was contacted by the fraudsters last year. They promised high returns on stock market investments and gained his trust. Initially, he received some returns, which encouraged him to invest more money. Over the past six months, he transferred Rs 45.40 lakh to the fraudsters’ accounts. However, when he stopped receiving returns, he realized he had been cheated and recently lodged a police complaint. Inspector Nilesh Jagdale from the Crime Branch is investigating the case.
Similarly, a resident of Katraj was defrauded of Rs 6.30 lakh. A case has been registered at the Bharati Vidyapeeth police station, and Senior Inspector Sawalaram Salgaonkar is leading the investigation.
In another case, a youth from Dhankawadi lost Rs 6.07 lakh to cyber fraudsters. The Sahakarnagar police have filed a case, and Senior Inspector Rahul Gaud is investigating.
Police have urged citizens to remain cautious and verify investment schemes before transferring money to unknown accounts.
