Pune: City experienced a major disruption on Monday morning as heavy rainfall, accompanied by strong winds, led to severe waterlogging and widespread traffic congestion across various parts of the city. The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued an orange alert for Pune, forecasting more intense weather in the coming days.

While the downpour provided a much-needed break from the scorching heat, it also caused significant inconvenience to residents. Areas like Sinhagad Road, Kothrud, Warje, Aundh, Baner, and Hadapsar saw heavy rain from early morning, resulting in waterlogged streets and poor drainage systems. These conditions led to long traffic jams, making it difficult for both commuters and pedestrians to navigate the city.

According to the IMD, wind speeds are expected to range between 50 to 60 km/h, along with thunder, lightning, and stormy showers. Authorities have advised residents to stay cautious and limit travel during periods of heavy rainfall.

Many low-lying roads were completely submerged due to the rain, which severely impacted vehicle movement. The combination of inadequate drainage and the sudden downpour overwhelmed the city’s infrastructure, exacerbating the inconvenience for those on the roads.

Weather experts have predicted that rainfall will continue for the next week, with wind speeds ranging from 40 to 50 km/h. Authorities are urging citizens to stay informed about weather alerts and take necessary precautions when going outdoors.

This unexpected change in weather comes after several days of rising temperatures and high humidity in Pune. While the rain brought much-needed relief, it also highlighted the city’s ongoing struggles with its monsoon preparedness and infrastructure challenges.
