Pune: City played host to a significant cultural milestone as the first-ever state-level convention of dhol-tasha troupes from across Maharashtra took place at Tata Hall, BMCC College of Commerce. The gathering, organized by the Dhol-Tasha Mahasangh Maharashtra, united over 250 troupes representing 20 districts, including Nagpur, Mumbai, Nashik, Kolhapur, and Solapur.
During the convention, key issues affecting the dhol-tasha community were presented to State Revenue Minister Chandrakant Bawankule, who assured attendees that their proposals would be taken up with Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis.
Core Demands Raised:
Official recognition of dhol-tasha performances as an integral part of government functions.
Inclusion of troupes in welcoming international dignitaries.
Extended performance hours from 6 PM to 9:30 PM, beginning 45 days before Ganeshotsav.
The convention was inaugurated in the presence of Higher and Technical Education Minister Chandrakant Patil, legal expert Pratap Pardeshi, and BMCC Principal Rajesh Supekar. A photo exhibition celebrating the vibrant legacy of dhol-tasha also drew attention.
Minister Bawankule hailed the art form as the “heartbeat of Maharashtra’s cultural spirit,” highlighting its potential on the global stage. Minister Patil echoed this sentiment, promising to resolve existing disputes related to performance permissions and encouraging musical creativity within the troupes.
The event marked a major step in organizing and advocating for one of Maharashtra’s most iconic musical traditions, reinforcing its importance in both local and global cultural narratives.
