Mumbai: Maharashtra Revenue Minister Chandrakant Bawankule informed the Legislative Assembly that irregularities in the Nigdi Sub-Registrar’s Office have resulted in a loss of Rs. 3.19 crore in government revenue. A total of 55 property-related documents—including sale deeds, gift deeds, and agreements—were allegedly registered by underpaying stamp duty and registration charges compared to the actual property valuations.
Responding to a starred question raised by Chinchwad MLA Shankar Jagtap, Minister Bawankule provided a written reply stating that illegal registrations had indeed taken place at the Nigdi office. The issue was first brought to light through complaints received by the District Registrar’s office.
A special investigation team reviewed the registrations and found that out of the 55 disputed documents, 12 contained various types of irregularities. Notably, 34 documents were registered in violation of the Fragmentation Act. Additionally, nine documents were found to have been registered with significantly lower-than-required stamp and registration fees.
The investigation revealed a total evasion of Rs. 3.18 crore in stamp duty and Rs. 1.13 lakh in registration fees, adding up to a total loss of Rs. 3.19 crore to the state exchequer.
In connection with the case, Sub-Registrar R. N. Donde was suspended on June 6, 2025.
