Pune: Kondhwa Police have registered a case against a real estate agent and a flat owner for failing to notify authorities about a foreign national residing in a rented apartment in Kondhwa Khurd. The action, initiated under Section 223(3)(5) of the Indian Justice Code, follows an FIR lodged on June 2, 2025.
According to police sources, a communication from the Foreign Nationals Registration Wing alerted officials to an unauthorised foreign resident staying at Flat No. 3 in Shivkrupa Building, located behind Ajmera Hotel. A team promptly visited the premises and confirmed that a foreign woman was indeed living there. The property in question is reportedly owned by a resident of Konarkpuram Society, Pune.
Further investigation revealed that the tenant had been placed in the flat by real estate agent Adnan Shabbir Hussain Bohra (29), a resident of Saeeda Manzil, Bhagyodaynagar, Kondhwa Khurd. However, neither the landlord nor the agent had conducted the compulsory police verification or executed a legal rental agreement.
The Pune Police Commissionerate had earlier issued preventive directives under Section 163(3) of the Indian Civil Security Code, 2023. These orders, effective from May 9 to July 7, mandated that all landlords must inform the police in writing before renting out properties, particularly to safeguard public safety. Non-compliance with these instructions led to the filing of charges against both the property owner and the agent.
This legal action was taken under the supervision of senior officers including Additional Commissioner of Police (East) Manoj Patil, DCP Zone 5 Rajkumar Shinde, ACP (Wanwadi Division) Dhanyakumar Godse, Senior PI Vinay Patankar, and Crime Inspectors Abdul Rauf Shaikh and Navnath Jagtap. The investigation team comprised constables Kite, Sutar, Hussain Shaikh, Sawant, and More.
