Pune: A 30-year-old man who had earlier been deported from Pune was arrested again on Wednesday, June 18, 2025, after police found him staying at his uncle’s house in Sagar Colony, Kothrud, in violation of a deportation order.
The accused, Akshay Shantaram Sawant, who was previously ordered to leave Pune City, Pimpri-Chinchwad, and Pune district for two years under Section 56(1)(a)(b) of the Maharashtra Police Act by order No. 31/2023, was apprehended after the Kothrud Police Station received a tip-off.
Acting on this information during patrolling for the Ashadi Wari festival, Sub-Inspector Shinde and Police Officer Katkar, under the guidance of Senior Police Inspector Rangrao Pawar of Crime Branch Unit 3, reached Paud Phata, Kothrud. The police team spotted Sawant at his uncle’s house at Sagar Colony, Kothrud, wearing a black T-shirt and green jeans. Upon being questioned, Sawant confirmed his identity and address.
As Sawant had failed to obtain permission to return, he was taken into custody. A case was registered under Section 142 of the Maharashtra Police Act at Kothrud Police Station.
