Pune: Residents of Kausar Baug in Kondhwa have expressed appreciation for the swift and coordinated action taken by the Pune Police, Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC), and local representatives to stop the unauthorized establishment of a goat market ahead of Eid al-Adha. The intervention has helped ensure a cleaner, safer, and more orderly environment in the area during the festive season.

The Kausar Baug Residents Forum (KBRF) submitted a formal letter of thanks, commending the authorities for increasing vigilance and strictly enforcing regulations that prevented the roadside sale of goats and fodder. In previous years, these informal livestock markets created serious disruptions—clogged streets, unhygienic conditions, and congestion in the densely populated neighborhood.

KBRF member Nisar Attar highlighted the significance of the move, noting, “Kausar Baug includes 40 to 50 housing societies and is not an appropriate location for livestock trading. In earlier years, festival days brought traffic jams, illegal parking, and public disorder. This time, the PMC, Police, and Animal Husbandry Department collaborated effectively and declined permission for the market. Their joint effort deserves recognition.”

Attar also credited the residents’ early outreach to officials as a key factor. “We raised our concerns well ahead of time, and this positive outcome is the result of proactive engagement and teamwork,” he added.

Rising goat prices this year have led many to choose third-party Qurbani services, contributing to a decrease in roadside trading and the usual chaos caused by unregulated vendors.

Residents reported a more pleasant and well-managed atmosphere leading up to Eid, free from the disturbances seen in the past. Many attributed this improvement to the timely actions of the authorities, which allowed the community to celebrate the festival in a calm and hygienic setting.

KBRF hopes that similar preventive measures will be adopted in the coming years to maintain the safety, cleanliness, and residential character of the locality during major festivals.
