Pune: The deteriorating law and order situation in Pune has once again come to light with a shocking incident at Swargate Bus Station. A 26-year-old woman was raped inside a Shivshahi bus, exposing serious security lapses in the city.
According to reports, the incident took place in the early hours of the morning when the victim was forcibly dragged into a stationary bus at Swargate ST Stand and sexually assaulted. The police have taken one suspect into custody and are conducting further investigations.
The horrific crime occurred late on Tuesday night when the area was less crowded. As the woman was passing by a Shivshahi bus, the accused allegedly pulled her inside and committed the crime.
The victim was on her way from Pune to Phaltan early in the morning when the attack took place. Following the assault, the accused, identified as Dattatray Gade, fled the scene, and police are now searching for him.
Swargate Bus Station is considered one of the safest transport hubs in the city, operating buses 24/7. However, this incident has raised concerns about security as the accused lured the victim inside the bus with misleading information before assaulting her.
The suspect has a criminal record, with cases registered against him at Shikrapur and Shirur police stations. Despite being a known offender, the fact that this incident occurred at a busy bus station raises serious questions about security lapses.
In recent times, crime rates in Pune have been rising, and this shocking case once again highlights the growing concerns about women’s safety in the city.
