In a distressing incident highlighting the dark intersection of cybercrime and betrayal in personal relationships, a 27-year-old man has been booked for allegedly uploading an explicit video of his former partner to a pornographic website after she refused his proposal for marriage.
The accused, Vinay Shirish Kulkarni—an automobile engineer residing in Phulewadi, Kolhapur—had been in a relationship with the 24-year-old victim, a manager at a private firm. The two reportedly became close after meeting around two years ago.
According to Alankar Police, during their consensual relationship, Kulkarni secretly recorded intimate moments with the woman without her consent. Their relationship eventually ended, and when the woman declined his offer of marriage, he allegedly retaliated in a shocking manner.
Months after their breakup, a friend of the woman came across an explicit video of her on a porn site and immediately informed her. Horrified by the discovery, the woman approached Alankar Police Station and lodged an official complaint.
The events are believed to have occurred between December 30, 2023, and May 12, 2025. Based on her statement, police registered a case against Kulkarni under the Information Technology (IT) Act, along with provisions related to voyeurism and breach of privacy.
Senior Police Inspector Sunita Rokade is currently heading the investigation. Authorities have confirmed that Kulkarni is under surveillance and likely to be arrested soon. Police officials emphasized the seriousness of the case, labeling it not only a cybercrime but also a gross violation of personal trust.
This disturbing case is yet another reminder of the increasing misuse of private media following failed relationships and has reignited calls for stronger digital safety practices and greater legal awareness to protect individuals from such abuse.
