Pune: A collaborative inspection was recently carried out at Pune’s bustling Swargate bus terminal to address ongoing commuter challenges and enhance operational efficiency. The inspection, led by PMPML Chairperson and Managing Director Deepa Mudhol-Munde, brought together key officials from PMPML, MahaMetro, and the city’s traffic police to evaluate the situation on the ground.
One of the top priorities identified was the enhancement of women’s safety through the maintenance of existing CCTV systems and the installation of additional surveillance cameras at the upcoming terminal. This move is part of a broader safety initiative for the city’s public transport users.
Accompanying Mrs. Mudhol-Munde during the visit were Mrs. Shailaja Jankar, Police Inspector of the Swargate Traffic Division; Mr. Govind Kadam, Project Manager; Mr. Dattatray Mane, Advisor to MahaMetro; and Mr. Satish Gawhane, Chief Transport Manager (Operations) at PMPML. The team conducted a detailed review of the proposed PMPML terminal adjacent to the Swargate Metro Station, carefully observing the bus traffic patterns and the site’s readiness.
To protect commuters from weather extremes, MahaMetro has been directed to erect temporary shelters that will provide cover from sun and rain until the new terminal is operational. In addition, immediate removal of unauthorized encroachments near the metro entrance was mandated to ensure unimpeded bus movement.
To further streamline traffic within the terminal, barricades will be placed strategically to regulate the movement of buses and minimize congestion. Emphasising collaboration, Mrs. Mudhol-Munde highlighted that PMPML and MahaMetro must function as integrated systems to offer safe, efficient, and commuter-friendly transport solutions.
This joint initiative underscores the commitment of city authorities to improve passenger experience and safety at one of Pune’s most critical transit hubs.
