Pune: Faced with widespread anger over errors in the MPSC State Services Prelims results, lack of transparency, and a low number of vacancies, student protests across Maharashtra finally compelled the Maharashtra Public Service Commission (MPSC) to take action.

On April 16, aspirants staged major protests outside district collector offices in Pune and Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar. Their key demands included a 45-day postponement of the State Services Main Examination, and an increase in vacancies across combined recruitment exams (PSI, STI, ASO, SR).

In response to the strong public pressure, the MPSC has finally relented. The Commission has postponed the Main Examination and released a revised schedule. The State Services Main Exam will now be held on May 27, 28, and 29, 2025, the Commission announced.

In an official statement, the MPSC clarified that 318 additional candidates have now qualified for the Main Exam based on the revised Prelims results. However, these candidates had limited time to prepare, prompting fresh petitions and requests from aspirants for an extension.

Taking into consideration the reservation-related challenges and multiple student representations, the Commission declared that the date change is a one-time, exceptional decision.

Another major student demand is to increase the number of vacancies in the PSI, STI, ASO, and SR recruitment process. While no official decision has been made yet, sources suggest that positive discussions are underway, renewing hope among the candidates.

Though the protest has now been temporarily suspended, students have warned that they are prepared to resume the agitation if all their demands are not fully met.
