Mumbai: A vehicle was engulfed in flames on the Bandra–Worli Sea Link early Thursday morning after it reportedly crashed along the southbound stretch, causing panic among commuters and resulting in temporary traffic disruption.
According to preliminary information, the car lost control and collided with the side barrier before catching fire. Motorists alerted authorities, following which the Mumbai Fire Brigade and police personnel rushed to the spot. The blaze was brought under control within minutes, preventing it from spreading to other vehicles.
No casualties have been reported so far, and the driver is believed to have escaped with minor injuries. Officials are yet to confirm the exact cause of the accident, though initial suspicion points to speeding or mechanical failure.
Traffic movement on the Sea Link was briefly halted and later restored after the vehicle was removed using a recovery van. Police have initiated a probe and are reviewing CCTV footage to ascertain the sequence of events.
The incident has once again raised concerns over speeding on the high-speed corridor, prompting authorities to remind commuters to follow lane discipline and speed limits.
