Pimpri Chinchwad: During May, the Pimpri-Chinchwad Police Commissionerate carried out a focused anti-drug campaign, resulting in 72 raids and the confiscation of a substantial amount of narcotics. Authorities seized 135 kilograms of ganja (cannabis), 521 grams of opium, and 95 grams of MD (methylenedioxy compounds), with the total value estimated at Rs 78,02,025. A total of 83 suspects were taken into custody in connection with these cases.
This intensive operation took place from May 1 to May 31, following instructions from the Director General of Police. Under the leadership of Police Commissioner Vinaykumar Chaubey, 28 specialized teams were deployed to carry out the crackdown.
The Crime Branch led the effort with 32 operations, seizing narcotics worth close to Rs 58 lakh. Large quantities of ganja, MD, and opium were recovered from areas under the jurisdictions of Bavdhan, Chakan, Dighi, Pimpri, and Mhalunge MIDC police stations.
Key seizures included 21 kilograms of ganja by Bavdhan Police, and two separate operations in Chakan yielding 11 kg and 15 kg of ganja respectively. Dighi Police recovered 13 kg of ganja and 11 grams of MD in two raids, while Crime Branch Unit 3 uprooted 28 ganja plants in Mhalunge. Additionally, Hinjawadi Police seized 68 grams of MD and arrested two individuals.
The Pimpri-Chinchwad Police Commissionerate emphasized that this campaign marks a vital effort in their ongoing mission to eradicate narcotics from the city.
