Pune Mahanagar Parivahan Mahamandal Ltd. (PMPML) has issued a stern warning to bus drivers who believe traffic rules don’t apply to them and continue to drive recklessly. PMPML has clarified that if any driver violates traffic rules, they will face strict penalties including suspension.
PMPML operates bus services across Pune, Pimpri-Chinchwad, adjoining suburbs, and the PMRDA region through both its own fleet and buses operated by private contractors. However, the administration has been receiving several complaints about drivers and conductors not adhering to traffic regulations.
These complaints — raised by passengers, citizen forums like Sajag Nagrik Manch, PMPML Passenger Forum, social organizations, and elected representatives — include drivers talking on the phone while driving, stopping buses on zebra crossings, smoking, failing to update route boards, not maintaining lane discipline, and jumping traffic signals.
Following the directive of the Chairman and Managing Director of PMPML, a circular has been issued warning all PMPML and private contractor drivers and conductors to strictly follow traffic rules. Any violation will result in a fine of ₹2,000 or suspension.
The circular outlines the following key instructions:
1. No mobile phone use while driving.
2. Strict adherence to all traffic regulations.
3. No smoking by drivers or conductors at any point.
4. Buses must stop close to designated bus stops for easy boarding and deboarding.
5. Lane discipline must be followed at all times.
6. Buses must not be driven at excessive speeds.
PMPML aims to ensure passenger safety, disciplined driving, and smoother public transport operations through these guidelines.
