Shirur, Pune: In a strong preventive action, the Pune Rural Police have externed three members of the notorious “Sanket Mahamuni Gang” from Pune and parts of Ahmednagar district for a period of two years. The action was taken under the Maharashtra Police Act Section 55, following repeated criminal activities by the gang in Shirur and surrounding areas.
The gang, led by Sanket Santosh Mahamuni from Sardawadi (Shirur), operated from 2016 to 2024 and included regular members: Abhishek alias Ghya Misal (age 23, resident of Sonar Ali, Shirur), Shubham Dattatray Dalvi (resident of Pritam Prakash Nagar, Shirur), and Ganesh alias Shrirang Mahajan (age 30, resident of Golegaon, Shirur). The gang was involved in serious offenses like attempted murder using country-made pistols, issuing threats, assault, unlawful gatherings, and possessing illegal weapons.
Following increasing concerns over the gang’s activities in Shirur Police Station limits and MIDC areas like Ranjangaon, Police Superintendent Pankaj Deshmukh had directed effective preventive action. As per his instructions, a formal proposal for externment was submitted by the Shirur Police Inspector in 2024.
After detailed hearings, SP Pankaj Deshmukh ordered that the three accused be externed from Pune district (including Pune City and Pimpri-Chinchwad) as well as Parner and Shrigonda talukas of Ahmednagar district starting April 2, 2025, for a duration of two years.
This operation was conducted under the guidance of Sub-Divisional Police Officer Prashant Dhole, Local Crime Branch Inspector Avinash Shilimkar, and Shirur Police Inspector Sandesh Kenjale. The team included PSI Shubham Chavan, Constables Parsharam Sangle, Sachin Bhoir, and other personnel from the Local Crime Branch and Shirur Police Station.
Inspector Sandesh Kenjale has assured that similar strict actions will continue against those involved in criminal and terrorizing activities within industrial and rural areas under Shirur Police Station limits.
