Pune: The Industry Department has issued a crucial notification declaring 2,832 hectares of land across seven villages in Purandar Taluka as an “industrial area” for the long-awaited Purandar Airport Project. However, confusion lingers due to the absence of any financial provision for the project in the recently presented state budget.

The designated villages for land acquisition are Vanpuri, Pargaon Memane, Kumbharvalan, Ekhatpur, Udachi Wadi, Munjwadi, and Khanwadi. A detailed land survey is expected to commence soon, marking the first step in the acquisition process.

The notification for acquiring land has been issued under the Maharashtra Industrial Development Act. The classification takes into account various factors, including irrigated and non-irrigated lands, natural resources, trees, wells, streams, roads, villages, and houses.

The Maharashtra Industrial Development Corporation (MIDC) will conduct land demarcation, and acquisition procedures will be finalized in coordination with the Revenue Department. Afterward, public notices will be issued, inviting objections and suggestions over a one-month period. Following this, a land survey will be conducted, and the acquisition process will begin.

Purandar Airport Project: Timeline and Progress

October 2016: The Purandar Airport project was initially announced but faced strong opposition.

MVA Government Period: The project site was shifted to an alternative location.

Current Government: With the Mahayuti government back in power, the decision was made to proceed with the airport at the originally proposed site within the next five years.

Recent Development: Despite the lack of financial allocation in the recent state budget presented by Finance Minister Ajit Pawar, the notification marks significant progress toward the project’s implementation.

Union Minister of State for Cooperation and Civil Aviation, Murlidhar Mohol, confirmed on social media that the Purandar Airport project will now gather momentum. The declaration of 2,832 hectares as an industrial area is expected to expedite the land acquisition process and bring the project closer to realization.
