Pimpri Chinchwad: The pre-monsoon rains have exposed the inefficiency of the Pimpri-Chinchwad Municipal Corporation (PCMC) administration. Waterlogging has occurred in several low-lying areas due to these early rains. Civic Mirror had earlier published a report titled “Pre-monsoon rains create chaos”, highlighting the situation. Following this, the municipal construction department has taken up the task of building stormwater lines and chambers.
In the PCMC jurisdiction, pre-monsoon rains were recorded during May and June. Due to the heavy downpour, areas like Chikhali, Moshi, the Municipal Commissioner’s Bungalow area, and industrial zones experienced water accumulation in low-lying regions. Civic Mirror had taken note and published a detailed report on the difficulties faced by citizens due to the waterlogging. Particularly, laborers working in the industrial area had to face numerous challenges while commuting. In several wards, water accumulated in the sunken parts of the roads, forcing office-goers, citizens, and senior citizens to navigate difficult conditions.
While the municipal administration was claiming that pre-monsoon preparedness work was almost complete, the actual rains exposed the reality. Stagnant water in low-lying areas led to the formation of swamps, increasing mosquito breeding and raising health concerns for residents. Ironically, even the road leading to Chinchwad MIDC, just a short distance from the Municipal Commissioner’s bungalow, was flooded—affecting workers commuting to the area. These workers expressed their frustration. Despite the fact that several municipal officers and employees use this very road to reach the office, waterlogging in the area continued, and the administration remained silent, leading to further dissatisfaction among the workers.
Moreover, reports stated that on the road from Jadhav Sarkar Chowk (Chikhali) to Spine Road, water had accumulated up to waist level, forcing residents to wade through it during their commute.
