Pune: A 46-year-old cab driver from Vadgaon Sheri, Pune, who was receiving treatment at KEM Hospital, was declared brain dead on March 8 after suffering from internal bleeding. In an inspiring act of selflessness, his family decided to donate his organs, saving the lives of three individuals.
With the consent of his family—including his father, wife, and two sons—the driver’s kidneys, liver, and heart were donated. His kidneys were transplanted into two women, aged 41 and 56, at KEM Hospital and Symbiosis Hospital in Pune. Meanwhile, his liver was transplanted into a 57-year-old woman at Sahyadri Super Specialty Hospital.
In a time-sensitive effort, the donor’s heart was transported to Jaslok Hospital in Mumbai. Thanks to the efforts of Pune traffic police and the coordination of the Zonal Transplant Coordination Committee (ZTCC), the heart reached its destination in under two hours, where it was transplanted into a 54-year-old patient.
This heartwarming act of organ donation has brought hope to the recipients and serves as a testament to the power of generosity in the face of tragedy.
