Pune: Koregaon Park recorded the highest temperature of the season on Tuesday, reaching a scorching 41.3°C. This temperature also marked the highest for March 2024, matching the record set by Shirur on March 13. Lohegaon followed closely with 40.3°C on March 18, 4°C above the average temperature for this time of year.
The eastern parts of Pune, including Koregaon Park and Lohegaon, have been experiencing extreme heat, surpassing the temperatures recorded in Wadgaon Sheri last year. According to the India Meteorological Department (IMD), other areas also recorded unusually high temperatures: Wadgaon Sheri saw 39.5°C, Hadapsar reached 39.8°C, Shivajinagar recorded 38.7°C (2.4°C above normal), and Pashan hit 38.8°C.
While daytime temperatures remain high, there has been a slight dip in nighttime temperatures, with the minimum recorded at 16.7°C on March 18, a decrease from 17-18°C earlier in the month. Meteorologists attribute this slight relief to a reduction in anticyclonic circulation and increased moisture, leading to occasional cloudy skies over parts of the state, including Pune. IMD predicts a small drop in temperature over the next 2-3 days.
Meanwhile, Bramhapuri in Vidarbha recorded the highest temperature in Maharashtra at 41.5°C, while Nashik registered the lowest at 15.4°C. The IMD has issued a yellow alert for lightning and thunderstorms in parts of Vidarbha on March 21 and 22, forecasting light rain and storm activity in the coming days.
