Pune: A man sustained a serious leg injury and fracture after being violently attacked with an iron rod and wooden stick for confronting an individual who had previously assaulted his brother.
The incident, which took place around 9:30 PM on March 6 near Nagzhari Nala, led to the arrest of Vishal Daryaraj Kamble from Ganj Peth. The complaint was lodged by Nitin Ganesh Kasbe (39), a resident of Mahatma Phule Peth, at the Khadak Police Station. Police have also filed a case against Kamble’s unidentified accomplices.
According to police reports, on February 25, Kamble had assaulted Vinod Kasbe (35), Nitin’s younger brother, without any apparent reason. Vinod later informed his brother about the assault. Since Kamble was an acquaintance, Nitin initially refrained from filing a police complaint, opting instead to confront Kamble personally.
On March 6, while passing through the Lahuji Vastad Talim area with his friend Durgesh Pardeshi, Nitin noticed Kamble standing with four associates. Nitin approached him to question the earlier assault.
In retaliation, Kamble’s associates forcibly dragged Nitin into the Nagzhari Nala compound, where Kamble verbally abused and threatened him. The group then attacked Nitin with an iron rod and wooden stick, focusing on his leg. When Durgesh intervened, he too was assaulted. Hearing Durgesh’s cries, the attackers fled the scene.
Nitin was rushed to Sassoon Hospital, where doctors diagnosed a fracture near his left ankle and applied a plaster cast for treatment.
The case is currently under investigation, led by Police Havaldar Ashok Nale. Authorities are actively pursuing further leads to identify and apprehend Kamble’s accomplices.
This incident has raised concerns about escalating street violence and the need for proactive measures to ensure community safety.
