Pune: In response to increased security concerns after the Indian Army’s “Operation Sindoor,” the Pune City Police has announced a 30-day prohibition on the use of drones and other aerial devices within city limits. This directive, issued by Joint Commissioner of Police and Executive Magistrate Ranjan Kumar Sharma under Section 163 of the Indian Civil Security Code, 2023, aims to curb the risk of misuse by anti-national groups.
Officials have raised alarms over the potential for drones, paragliders, and similar aerial gadgets to be exploited by hostile elements to target sensitive religious sites, popular tourist spots, and VVIPs, posing threats to public safety and property.
The order strictly bans the operation of drones, remote-controlled devices, micro-lights, aircraft, paragliders, paramotors, hang gliders, and hot air balloons across the jurisdiction of Pune City Police Commissionerate from 12:09 AM on May 14, 2025, until midnight on June 12, 2025. Exceptions are granted only for aerial surveillance by Pune Police or activities that receive prior written approval from the Deputy Commissioner of Police, Special Branch, Pune City.
Those found violating the ban will be dealt with under Section 223 of the Indian Penal Code, 2023.
