Pune: A surge in pig deaths in Pune’s Kothrud area has raised concerns, with post-mortem reports confirming poisoning as the cause. In response, the Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) Health Department has launched an investigation and deployed a team to assess the situation.
Since February 6, dead pigs have been repeatedly found in Bharati Nagar Nala and Bhimale Corner, with the total count reaching 54 carcasses. The alarming number of deaths has led authorities to suspect deliberate poisoning.
To determine the exact cause, the Veterinary Department’s Disease Control Center conducted a post-mortem on one of the pigs. Their analysis confirmed the presence of carbamate poison, a hazardous chemical commonly used in pesticides.
Following these findings, PMC officials have intensified surveillance and inspections in the affected areas. Efforts are underway to trace the source of the poisoning and prevent further incidents. Authorities are also considering legal action if any foul play is detected.
