Maharashtra: Weather conditions across Maharashtra are set to remain unstable over the coming days, with the India Meteorological Department (IMD) predicting intermittent rainfall, thunderstorms, and gusty winds across several regions. A yellow alert has been issued for 25 districts, while an orange alert—indicating more severe weather—has been declared for three districts in Vidarbha.
Mumbai has experienced muggy weather and thick cloud cover over the past few days, making conditions uncomfortable for residents. Although rainfall has remained minimal, the IMD has continued a yellow alert for the city due to the potential for thunderstorms and strong winds. On Friday, temperatures reached 34.4°C in Santacruz and 34.2°C in Colaba, while humidity levels remained high between 68% and 70%.
The current weather is being influenced by a cyclonic circulation over the Arabian Sea, which has led to increased cloud formation. Scattered light rain is expected to start next week, though a notable decrease in temperatures is unlikely.
Pune is also seeing a shift in its weather pattern. On May 17, the city is forecast to experience a low of around 23°C and a high of 35°C. Cloudy skies will dominate the morning, followed by rain showers and gusty winds later in the day.
Yellow alerts have been issued for multiple districts across different regions due to the likelihood of moderate rain, thunderstorm activity, and wind gusts:
Konkan region: Thane, Palghar, Raigad, Ratnagiri, Sindhudurg (Mumbai may be excluded on some days)
Madhya Maharashtra: Pune, Nashik, Satara, Kolhapur, Sangli, Solapur, Ahmednagar (Ahilyanagar), Dhule, Nandurbar
Marathwada: Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar, Jalna, Beed, Latur, Parbhani, Dharashiv
Vidarbha: Akola, Buldhana, Amravati, Nagpur, Bhandara, Gondia, Gadchiroli, Washim
Meanwhile, orange alerts have been issued for Yavatmal, Chandrapur, and Wardha, where more intense weather is expected—including heavy rainfall, strong thunderstorms, and winds of 40-50 km/h.
