Pune: Residents of Keshav Nagar are hopeful that the long-awaited completion of the Godrej–Kharadi bridge, along with the opening of the newly constructed underpass from Keshav Nagar to Amanora, will alleviate the severe traffic congestion in the area.
The bridge project, initially proposed by the civic administration in 2018-19, only saw work beginning around 2022. Officials from the Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) explained that delays have been caused by land usage issues at the Kharadi end of the bridge, where the land is currently occupied by a crematorium and other structures. “The construction of the bridge’s landing spans has been slower than anticipated due to these land challenges. However, discussions are ongoing to resolve the issues, and we anticipate completing the bridge within three months once the land concerns are addressed,” said a PMC official.
An 80% completed bridge, spanning the Mula-Mutha river and connecting the Mundhwa-Keshav Nagar and Kharadi areas, has faced roadblocks due to land acquisition delays. Residents are now urging local authorities to fast-track the project to ease their daily commuting struggles caused by detours and extended travel times.
