Pimpri-Chinchwad: In a significant move addressing public sentiment, the Pimpri-Chinchwad Municipal Corporation (PCMC) has assured that the proposed slaughterhouse in Moshi under its draft development plan (DP) will be scrapped. Instead, a cattle shelter (goshala) is likely to be established at the same location.

The decision comes after strong opposition from local residents, original inhabitants, and various Hindu organizations. BJP MLA Mahesh Landge led the protest, firmly demanding the removal of the slaughterhouse reservation and the establishment of a goshala in its place.

According to the draft DP released by PCMC, land in Survey No. 325 (Old Survey No. 323) in Moshi was reserved for a slaughterhouse. The proposal drew criticism from villagers, Hindutva groups, and religious leaders who argued that the decision was culturally insensitive and could disrupt communal harmony.

A delegation of Moshi residents met with Municipal Commissioner and Administrator Shekhar Singh, urging the administration to reconsider the reservation. They highlighted Moshi’s historical and religious significance, noting that it lies between two prominent pilgrimage towns—Alandi and Dehu—and has a deep-rooted Warkari tradition. The villagers also pointed out that the proposed site is near the samadhi (memorial) of Shri Nageshwar Maharaj, where thousands gather annually for a grand Bhandara celebration.

Responding to the concerns, Commissioner Shekhar Singh assured that the slaughterhouse reservation would be canceled. He added that a proposal to designate the area for a cattle shelter would be submitted to the relevant committee.

MLA Mahesh Landge reiterated the public’s opposition, stating that the development plan committee should have selected a more appropriate location for such a facility. He confirmed that a proposal to shift the slaughterhouse to another site will be presented formally and welcomed the commissioner’s positive response.
The move has been widely welcomed by the community, who say it reflects the cultural and religious values of the region while maintaining social harmony.
