In a shocking incident that caused panic across Sassoon General Hospital., a security guard has been arrested by Bundgarden Police for spreading a false message about a bomb being planted inside Sassoon General Hospital.
The accused, Arvind Krishna Kokani (29), a resident of Nagpur Chawl, Yerwada, was traced using technical surveillance and local informants. During interrogation, he confessed to stealing a mobile phone from a female patient admitted in Ward No. 73 and using it to send a bomb threat message to Dr. Harish Tatia, a doctor at Sassoon Hospital. The next day, he switched the phone on again and sent another threatening message to Medical Superintendent Dr. Jadhav before turning it off once more.
The incident occurred on May 12, when doctors at Sassoon Hospital received a bomb threat via SMS from an unknown number. This triggered immediate action from Bundgarden Police, the Bomb Detection and Disposal Squad (BDDS), and officers led by Police Inspector Yele, who thoroughly searched the hospital premises. The message created fear and confusion among hospital staff, patients, their relatives, and security forces.
Following a complaint filed by Dr. Harish Suresh Tatia, an FIR was registered at Bundgarden Police Station. Under the supervision of Deputy Commissioner of Police (Zone 2) Smarta Patil, a special investigation team was formed to trace the sender.
After confirming Kokani’s involvement, he was formally arrested on May 14, and further investigation is underway.
The operation was executed by a team comprising PSI Swapnil Lohar and constables Pradeep Shitole, Saras Salvi, Prakash Avhad, Manoj Bhokare, Manish Sankpal, Mahesh Jadhav, Vishnu Sarvade, Amit Saste, Ramdas Ghavate, and Tushar Alhat.
