Pune: A massive traffic jam has brought the Mumbai-Pune Expressway to a complete standstill on Thursday morning, with all lanes blocked due to multiple diversions and ongoing heavy rains. Commuters are experiencing significant delays as the expressway, notorious for frequent congestion, struggles to handle the heavy volume of vehicles, especially trucks.
Authorities have confirmed that moderate to heavy rainfall will persist throughout the day in the Western Ghats, Mumbai, and Pune regions, further impeding traffic flow and raising safety concerns on the roads.
Daily commuters have expressed frustration over inadequate traffic management on one of India’s busiest highways. Overloaded trucks dominating all lanes, lack of adherence to lane discipline, and insufficient enforcement by highway traffic police have exacerbated the gridlock.
A regular commuter stuck near Lonavala remarked, “This expressway is always congested, and no effective measures are taken. Heavy trucks ignore lane rules, and the police remain passive. It’s both dangerous and exhausting.”
Travel Advisory:
Avoid non-essential travel on the Mumbai-Pune Expressway today.
Exercise caution in ghat sections due to ongoing risk of landslides caused by persistent rainfall.
Carry emergency supplies and stay updated on traffic conditions before beginning your journey.
Authorities are monitoring the situation closely and will provide updates on traffic clearance as soon as possible.
