Pune: Workers of the Nationalist Congress Party (Sharadchandra Pawar faction) staged a protest on the Pune Metro track, leading to a major clash with the police. Some protesters pushed and manhandled police officers. The police arrested the protesters, and the situation became chaotic.
The protest was organized against rising crimes against women, unemployment among youth, and the law-and-order situation in the state. NCP (Sharad Pawar faction) workers climbed onto the Metro track at a Pune Metro station and raised slogans. During the protest, a heated argument broke out between the police and the workers, which later turned into a scuffle.
As the protest disrupted Metro services, police tried to take the protesters into custody. However, this led to further clashes, pushing, and arguments. To control the situation, additional police forces were deployed, and the protesters were forcefully removed. Among those arrested was Narendra Pavatekar, a party worker.
Narendra Pavatekar, who belongs to the Kasba Assembly constituency, had joined the NCP (Sharad Pawar faction) three months ago. However, he had not participated in any party activities or protests since joining. Today’s protest against Pune Metro and the confrontation with police were his personal actions and had no connection with the party, said Pune city NCP (Sharad Pawar faction) president Prashant Sudam Jagtap.
Due to his actions, which caused inconvenience to Pune residents and led to a scuffle with the police, the party has decided to expel him, Jagtap added.
