Pune: In a decisive action against illegal arms possession, the Sinhagad Road Police apprehended a history-sheeter and recovered a country-made pistol along with three live cartridges during a routine crime prevention patrol.
During a patrolling operation, constables Rahul Olekar and Vinayak Mohite received intelligence regarding Khandu Mhetre, a known offender, being in possession of an illegal firearm. Acting on the tip-off, a police team led by PSI Santosh Bhaturikar conducted a raid at an open space near Shashitara Pratishthan office in Hingane. The accused, already on police records, was found in suspicious circumstances. Upon frisking him, officials recovered a country-made pistol valued at ₹40,000 and three live cartridges worth ₹3,000.
A case was promptly registered under Arms Act Section 3(25) and Maharashtra Police Act Sections 37(1), 135, and 142, leading to his immediate arrest. The matter is currently under investigation by PSI Santosh Budrukar.
On the same day, the Sinhagad Road Police team also apprehended Shubham Sachin Uphale, another wanted accused. Acting on a tip-off provided to Police Officer Ganesh Zagde, the police verified the information and raided Uphale’s residence in Sainagar, Hingane Khurd. He was taken into custody, and PO Air Sanjay Shinde is leading the investigation into his case.
The successful operations were executed under the leadership of Pravin Kumar Patil, Upper Commissioner of Police, Western Regional Division, Pune City, Sambhaji Kadam, Deputy Commissioner of Police, Parimandal 3, Pune City, and Ajay Parmar, Assistant Commissioner of Police, Sinhagad Road Division. The initiative was carried out under the guidance of Senior Police Inspector Dilip Dayagade and Crime Inspector Uttam Bhajanavle. The operation also saw the involvement of officers including Sachin Nikam, Santosh Kaputkar, Sanjay Shinde, Ganesh Zagde, Vinayak Mohite, Rahul Olekar, Deva Chavan, Sagar Shedge, and Nilesh Bhorde.
