Pune : On Sankranti Day Tuesday, three individuals, including two senior citizens and a 12-year-old girl, were injured by dangerous kite manja string. The first incident occurred around 5 p.m. when 67-year-old Devram Dattatray Kamthe, a resident of Shivajinagar, was riding his bike towards Shaniwarwada. He suddenly encountered a kite string and attempted to remove it with his hand, resulting in a severe cut to his thumb. Kamthe received first aid and was promptly taken to the hospital.
The other two victims, 70-year-old Baban Divate and 12-year-old Vandana Dethe, sustained injuries while walking. Divate injured his leg, while Vandana suffered cuts to her tongue. Both were treated at Sassoon General Hospital.
Authorities had warned against the use of nylon kite strings, which are banned due to their dangerous nature. Despite this, illegal sales of nylon strings continue, prompting the police to intensify their crackdown on vendors defying court orders.
