Pune : A heartbreaking accident on the Katraj-Handewadi Road has resulted in the untimely death of Dr. Pranali Tanmay Date, a 34-year-old woman doctor. Dr. Date, a resident of VTP Urban Nest Society in Undri, was traveling towards Handewadi on her two-wheeler around 12:30 PM when a speeding truck struck her from behind. The collision caused her to fall, and tragically, the truck’s wheels ran over her, resulting in her immediate death.
The truck driver, identified as 35-year-old Pandurang Balbhim Bhosale from Tuljapur, Dharashiv district, fled the scene of the accident. However, with the assistance of CCTV footage, the Kalepadal Police were able to track him down, and he was subsequently arrested. Bhosale has been charged in connection with the incident.
Dr. Date is survived by her husband, who is also a doctor, and their young son. She was the owner of a clinic located in the Undri area.
The Katraj to Mantarwadi bypass, which includes the Katraj-Handewadi Road, is notorious for heavy traffic, particularly from large trucks. The densely populated areas of Handewadi, Undri, Pisoli, and Kondhwa along the route have raised concerns about the dangers posed by speeding vehicles, with local residents pointing out the frequent occurrence of accidents due to driver negligence.
This tragic incident has once again underscored the urgent need for enhanced traffic management and safety measures on the Katraj-Handewadi Road to prevent further accidents and protect the lives of commuters.
