Pune: In a heart-wrenching incident in Pune’s Nana Peth area, an eight-year-old girl lost her life after being electrocuted by a live streetlight pole near Doke Talim on Sunday. Another child sustained injuries but is reported to be in stable condition.
The young victim has been identified as Sayali Dambe, a resident of the locality near Doke Talim. According to eyewitnesses and police reports, Sayali was playing with a group of children in the area when she accidentally touched an electric pole near Inamdar Chowk, which was carrying a live current. A young boy who came in contact with her also suffered an electric shock.
A passing bus driver witnessed the tragic scene and promptly intervened using a wooden stick to separate the children from the pole. Both children were immediately rushed to a nearby private hospital. Despite efforts by the medical team, Sayali was declared dead during treatment.
The untimely death of the child has left the local community in deep mourning. Authorities from the Samarth Police Station have registered a case of accidental death.
“We’ve reached out to officials from MSEDCL and the Pune Municipal Corporation to understand how such a hazardous situation developed. A comprehensive investigation will be launched based on the technical report provided by MSEDCL,” said Senior Inspector Umesh Gitte.
Local residents are now demanding accountability and swift action to prevent such tragedies in the future.
