Pune: In a shocking incident in Wagholi, a container truck driver was run over and killed following an argument over bill payment at a hotel. The accused driver has been arrested, and a case has been registered at Wagholi Police Station.
The deceased has been identified as Parmeshwar Balaji Devaraye (35, resident of Nanded). A complaint in this regard was filed by Ramchandra Shivram Pole (44, resident of Chakan). Based on the complaint, the police have registered a case against Ram Datta Puri (25, resident of Ranjangaon, Shirur, Pune), who has been taken into custody.
According to the police, both the accused, Ram Puri, and the victim, Devaraye, worked as truck drivers for Santosh Panchudkar’s transport company. On Thursday, February 13, they arrived at a warehouse on Nagar Road to unload goods. After completing their work at Shri Ganesh Warehouse, Devaraye, Puri, and Pole went to a hotel for dinner around 8:30 PM.
After finishing their meal, a dispute arose over bill payment. The argument escalated, and Devaraye slapped Puri. Enraged, Puri threatened to kill him. Shortly after, Puri took control of the container truck and deliberately ran over Devaraye, crushing him under the wheels and killing him on the spot.
After committing the murder, Puri attempted to flee with the truck, colliding with two to three other vehicles on the way. Meanwhile, eyewitness Pole raised an alarm, attracting bystanders who chased down the accused, overpowered him, and handed him over to the police after beating him.
Upon receiving the information, senior officials including Deputy Commissioner of Police (Crime) Nikhil Pingle, Zone 4 Deputy Commissioner Himmat Jadhav, Assistant Commissioner Pranjali Sonawane, Rajendra Mulik, and Wagholi Police Station’s Senior Inspector Pandit Rejitwad visited the crime scene.
The case is currently under investigation, led by Police Sub-Inspector Vaijanath Kedar.

Pune: A fire broke out in a room designated for children’s education at a labor camp near Chelaram Hospital in Bavdhan, causing significant damage to school supplies. The room, which was used as a classroom for children living in the camp, housed essential learning materials such as notebooks, textbooks, and toys. The blaze quickly engulfed the area, reducing much of the educational resources to ashes before emergency responders could intervene. The exact cause of the fire remains unknown, but preliminary reports suggest that it may have been triggered by an electrical short circuit or accidental negligence.
Upon receiving the alert, the fire brigade rushed to the scene and managed to bring the fire under control before it could spread to nearby structures. Fortunately, no injuries were reported, as the fire broke out at a time when no children or staff members were inside the room. Local authorities and fire department officials are now assessing the damage and investigating the cause of the incident. Efforts are also being made to support the affected children, with community members and NGOs stepping forward to help replace the lost study materials and ensure that their education is not disrupted.
