Pune: A woman was allegedly defrauded of ₹5.5 lakh after being lured with a promise to send her daughter abroad for education and employment. A case of cheating has been registered against one person at the Kalepadal Police Station.
The accused has been identified as Pradeep Ikke, a resident of Undri. The complaint was filed by Jayamma Ramanaiah Kamna Boina (age 46), a resident of Balaji Nagar, Ghorpadi.
According to police, the complainant came into contact with the accused in 2022. Ikke allegedly gained her trust by claiming he could arrange for her daughter to go abroad for higher studies and a job. He took ₹5.5 lakh from the complainant for this purpose. However, he neither sent the daughter abroad nor returned the money, thereby defrauding the woman.
When the complainant asked for her money back, the accused reportedly evaded her and eventually said, “I won’t return the money. Do whatever you want.” Following this, the woman lodged a formal complaint with the Kalepadal Police Station.
A case of cheating has been registered, and Assistant Police Inspector Shete is currently investigating the matter.
