Pune: A heartbreaking incident has sparked statewide outrage after a pregnant woman lost her life allegedly due to a hospital’s rigid financial policy. Sushant Bhise, personal assistant to MLA Amit Gorkhe, faced a devastating loss when his wife was denied admission at Deenanath Mangeshkar Hospital for urgent medical care.
Despite having ₹2.5 lakh available, the hospital reportedly insisted on a ₹10 lakh advance payment before proceeding with her treatment. Due to this refusal, she had to be transferred to another medical facility, during which she developed severe complications. Though she successfully delivered twins, she tragically passed away soon after.
The hospital’s alleged prioritization of financial requirements over emergency medical care has led to severe criticism from the public and political circles. Many have accused the institution of valuing profits over human life, reigniting concerns about the commercialization of healthcare services.
Amid mounting backlash, the hospital administration dismissed the allegations as defamatory. However, a receipt surfaced confirming that the family was indeed asked to pay ₹10 lakh upfront, intensifying demands for accountability and justice in the healthcare system
