Yamaha R3 Special Edition has been unveiled as part of Yamaha’s global 70th anniversary celebration. The commemorative model stands out with a striking red and white livery and will reach select international markets in 2026. Although the brand has showcased four anniversary sportbikes, the Yamaha R3 Special remains the only one relevant to India, even though this updated version is not expected here.
The Yamaha R3 Special features a bold paint scheme across the fairing, tank, and tail section. Moreover, Yamaha has added red 3D-style tiles on the side panels, adding visual depth. Black accents on the front fascia and lower fairing balance the design, while the R3 and Yamaha logos sit prominently on the headlamp and fuel tank. Furthermore, despite the visual overhaul, Yamaha has not altered any mechanical components. Consequently, the motorcycle remains identical to the standard model in performance and hardware.
Power continues to come from the proven 321cc, parallel-twin, liquid-cooled engine. It produces 40.4bhp and 29.4Nm, delivering smooth yet spirited performance. Additionally, the bike uses a diamond-type chassis, 17-inch alloy wheels, upside-down front forks, and a rear monoshock. Braking duties are handled by single discs at both ends with ABS. The latest model also includes a TFT display and an assist and slipper clutch, adding modern functionality.
In India, the older Yamaha R3 is already on sale at Rs. 3.39 lakh, ex-showroom. However, the updated Yamaha R3 Special is unlikely to launch domestically. The earlier model received a lukewarm response due to its high pricing, and Yamaha appears cautious about reintroducing a premium variant. As a result, Indian enthusiasts may only admire this anniversary edition from afar.
