Pune: In a proactive move to bolster emergency readiness, the 5th Battalion of the National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) carried out an extensive disaster preparedness exercise across several regions of Maharashtra. The drills, involving 12 specialized NDRF teams, were organized to assess and enhance preparedness ahead of the monsoon season.
The large-scale simulation covered a wide range of potential disaster scenarios such as floods, landslides, earthquakes, and chemical hazards. The aim was to test coordination, rapid response capabilities, and on-ground operational efficiency.
The key locations where the disaster preparedness drills were conducted included Badlapur in Mumbai, Kondhali Dam in Nagpur, and Boisar in Palghar. In the Pune region, multiple strategic sites were chosen, such as Bhushi Dam, Pawna Lake, Ashkhed Dam, Ranjangaon MIDC, Kolawade Village, Lonavala’s Tiger Point, and Andra Dam. Each of these locations was selected to simulate realistic emergency scenarios based on their geographical and environmental relevance.
Each simulation was carefully designed to replicate real-world emergency conditions. From water rescue operations during flooding to rapid response in landslide-prone zones and chemical contamination scenarios, the drills ensured that all teams practiced tactical responses in high-pressure situations.
The 5 BN NDRF reiterated its unwavering commitment to public safety, resilience, and rapid crisis intervention. With this drill, the battalion demonstrated that it stands ready to protect citizens and respond effectively in times of natural or man-made disasters.
