Pune: Air pollution in Pimpri-Chinchwad has seen a sharp rise, posing serious health risks to residents. Chinchwad MLA Shankar Jagtap has urged municipal authorities to take immediate action against unauthorized ready-mix concrete (RMC) plants that are violating environmental norms.
In a letter addressed to Municipal Commissioner Shekhar Singh, Jagtap highlighted that these unapproved RMC plants are significantly contributing to air and noise pollution in the city. Operating without necessary clearance from the environmental department, these plants have been linked to an increased risk of respiratory illnesses among residents.
Health Concerns Prompt Demand for Closure
With numerous housing projects underway in the Chinchwad constituency, RMC plants are being widely used for construction activities. However, their operation has led to excessive dust generation, heavy vehicular movement, and persistent machine noise, severely impacting the quality of life for locals. Particularly vulnerable are children, senior citizens, and individuals with pre-existing respiratory conditions.
Citing these concerns, MLA Jagtap has formally submitted a memorandum to Municipal Commissioner Shekhar Singh, pressing for strict action against RMC plants that violate Maharashtra Pollution Control Board (MPCB) regulations. He has demanded the immediate closure of all unauthorized facilities to safeguard public health and the environment.
