Bengaluru: Over the next two years, Microsoft will invest $3 billion in India to advance artificial intelligence (AI)-related skill development and infrastructure. This investment includes the expansion of the company’s data center in Hinjewadi, Pune.
Microsoft CEO Satya Nadella announced the initiative during the Microsoft AI Tour event in Bengaluru, highlighting India’s strategic priority in the global AI ecosystem. The investment plan involves establishing new data centers in India, adding to the three already operational in the country. The fourth data center is expected to become operational by 2026.
In Hinjewadi, Microsoft owns a data center, and in September, the company acquired additional land for its expansion. This move positions Maharashtra as a potential leader in AI-driven innovation and infrastructure.
Reacting to the announcement, NCP MLA Rohit Pawar urged the Maharashtra government to actively engage with Microsoft and the central government to secure additional investments, emphasizing the opportunity to strengthen the state’s leadership in the AI sector.
