Pune: Police have launched a new training initiative for its traffic branch personnel, aimed at improving road safety and providing swift assistance to accident victims. This training program, inspired by Mumbai Police practices, has successfully equipped 65 personnel with crucial skills. The participants were awarded certificates by Police Commissioner Amitesh Kumar during a ceremony held at the Police Commissionerate on Tuesday.

The event saw the first five officers and 60 traffic police personnel receive recognition for completing the training. The ceremony was attended by Joint Commissioner of Police Ranjan Kumar Sharma, Additional Commissioner of Police Manoj Patil, and Deputy Commissioner Amol Zende.

The training was guided by several experts, including directors from Soft Skills, Manjiri Gokhale, Suresh Gokhale, and Urmila Dixit, as well as officials from the Regional Transport Department, including Anil Pantoji, Prakash Jadhav, Amit Gonjari, and retired Assistant Commissioner Vijay Palsule. The session also involved medical professionals from Jahangir Hospital.

The program provided officers with valuable knowledge in various areas, such as vehicle laws, technology, the effective use of e-challan machines, communication skills, and emergency medical assistance for accident victims. Police Commissioner Amitesh Kumar emphasized that the skills gained from this training would enhance traffic management and victim support.

Additionally, plans are being considered to establish a dedicated training institute for traffic police officers, akin to Mumbai Police’s model. However, the final decision regarding the institute’s setup is still pending.
