Pune: The Mula River, which separates Pune and Pimpri-Chinchwad, has begun foaming heavily, joining the growing concerns about pollution in nearby rivers like Pavana and Indrayani. For the past two days, disturbing scenes have been observed in the Vishal Nagar area near Pimple Nilakh, where the river’s waters have turned white and foamy. Hundreds of dead fish have been spotted floating in the river daily, prompting local residents to raise serious environmental concerns.
Community members are now urging the Maharashtra Pollution Control Board (MPCB) and the Pimpri-Chinchwad Municipal Corporation (PCMC) to take action against the factories in Hinjewadi, which are accused of discharging untreated sewage and chemical-laden water into the river.
The unchecked release of toxic waste into the river is putting aquatic life at risk and could potentially harm human health. The situation is growing increasingly dire, with local residents and environmentalists calling for immediate intervention to address the pollution and its harmful effects on the ecosystem.
